TOO DANG COLD....still

   March 17, 2014...still

Split from Clarko St. Pk., Quitman, Miss. & pointed the nose for Natchez, Miss. St.Pk..  Had lunch in Bude, Miss. amongst a lot of forlorn looking folks just out of church.  The countryside from Bude  to Natchez was rolling pine covered hills, an occasional big farm and church after church after church--seemingly the most prosperous business in these parts. Approaching Natchez we took a wrong turn down a dirt road with no place to turn around & shades of the movie, Deliverance-- what with all the local fellows leaning over their pickup beds and giving us the evil eye: Two seniors in an egg-shaped pod of a camper ain't something one sees down in the boonies--this, I get. Finally found a turn around spot of sorts & bogged down in the mud but managed to come about. Our Natchez camping spot last night was muddy but we met some neat folks:  a couple even older than us from Wis. who were bemoaning their return home & a second couple heading home to western N.Y. who were also a bit long faced. They'd been to Big Bend like us and were perhaps even more enamored of this 880,000 acre marvel than we are. These folks gave us a camping spot tip down on Mustang Island on the northern tip of Padre Island, Tex., on the Gulf, off- shore from Corpus Christi. Really hankering some short britches, a Tee-shirt and some shrimp. Before splitting for Mustang Island we're spending two nights at Martin Di'es St. Pk. outside of Jasper,Tex. Great spot right next to a cyprus filled lake.  All around are the tall, tall pines. We'll rest here till early Wednesday and then blast off for the Gulf. Yippeeeeee!!!!!
